FLUID BODIES

Fluid Bodies is a culmination of 3 years work which premieres at Toi MAHARA from 14th February 2026 until 14th June 2026. Combining science, art, and biotechnology this immersive mixed media installation is a metaphor for the finely tuned balance of our Earth’s systems.

The photos below are a small selection demonstrating the making of the work.  From initial concept and prototypes, to the creation of the sculptures and the quadrophonic soundtrack, through to the construction of the crates I designed for storage and transit.  The documentation concludes at the technical installation I carried out at Massey University, in the Ahumairangi recording studio.  I am exceptionally humbled and grateful for all the in-kind support I received from so many people throughout this project, and to the generosity of my sponsors Asia New Zealand Foundation, Task Lighting New Zealand, and MYCL, Indonesia.

Fluid Bodies is part of Aotearoa New Zealand Festival of the Arts 2026.

Come and hear me talk at Toi MAHARA about the inspiration for this work in discussion with climate change scientist Professor James Renwick on Sunday 8th March 2:30pm-3:30pm
